Why drink water when we are faced with an array of energy drinks, sodas, coffees and coffee drinks? Because I said so! Just kidding. I would love to indulge in caffeine laden beverages which could double as a desserts (meals in some cases), but I realized I can't. It took some effort on my part but I am now a believer. My new motto is: "H2 Oh YES!" I'm not saying you can't treat yourself on occasion, but when it comes to quenching my thirst, water is the only way.
One day, I came to this realization after looking at a graveyard of empty soda cans I drained. I just looked at them and said: "I'm still thirsty!" Yes, they were zero calorie sodas but they weren't doing the job of quenching my thirst. I decided to switch it up and drink water. Yes, water can be boring but it doesn't have to be that way.
Get creative!
I like to add fresh lemon or lime slices, even mint or cucumber will waken your palette. Another way of making water taste better is by utilizing a water filtration system.
Let's face it, tap water is just plain icky.
When you drink water, how much is enough? The amount varies for each individual. Water consumption needs depend on factors such as one's health, weight, activity level and their region/climate. Each of these factors should be considered and addressed with a professional if in doubt. Some health experts feel that the general rule of eight, 8 ounce glasses of water are sufficient. Others argue that it's eight, 8 ounce glasses of
fluids every day.
Another general rule is to take your weight in pounds, divided by 2. The resulting number is the number of ounces of water recommended each day. Again, consult a professional to dial in your optimal daily amount.
There are myriad other reasons to drink water. Water flushes toxins out of your system, it's a carrier of nutrients, it keeps your skin healthy, AND it helps prevent overeating when consumed before and during meals. Aside from these great health benefits, my choice to drink water is a way for me to thumb my nose at the beverage peddlers and take control of my life. It feels great no matter how I view my decision.
I encourage you to consider saying "H2 Oh YES!" I think you will be happy with your
decision.
I wish you well. Drink Up.
